About us

The Canadian Association for Teacher Education (CATE) promotes dialogue on teacher education, research and collaboration in this field across Canada. CATE is a constituent association of the Canadian Society for the Study of Education.

Our mission

CATE's mission is to encourage scholarly study and research in teacher education. This includes teacher education practice, possibilities, and challenges, as well as the impact of teacher education on society. CATE values ​​​​the role teacher education can play in supporting equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization, and prioritizes pedagogies and scholarship that advance these goals. It aims to provide a national forum for the presentation, discussion, and publication of significant studies in education, with special emphasis on teacher education. CATE engages in this work in collaboration with other national and international organizations with similar goals.
